The Net Zero Commission values public engagement
Public engagement is crucial for effective climate action that benefits everyone. We believe that consulting a wide range of stakeholders will deliver stronger and more practical solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation. We want to hear from you, so we can understand the scale and scope of the topics affecting communities, business and industry.
Under the Climate Change (Net Zero Future) Act 2023, the commission is asked to consult broadly and comprehensively. That is a responsibility we take seriously.

How we engage
The Net Zero Commission strives for best practice community and stakeholder engagement. We view our engagement work as an opportunity to ensure our state is more resilient to a changing climate and on a clear path to net zero.
When engaging, the commission will listen in an open and transparent way. Our goal is to have meaningful dialogue. The input we receive, along with evidence from other sources, will help inform our policy recommendations and shape key pieces of work from the commission.
We ask people to provide feedback on our discussion papers, draft advice and work plans, via a range of opportunities, including:
- workshops and community meetings
- stakeholder meetings and roundtables
- online consultations, including submissions
- community reference groups
- advisory panels
- drop-in sessions
- surveys.
Our public engagement is guided by 4 principles
Clear in scope and purpose
Accessible with a full range of values and perspectives
Promote and open-up genuine discussion
Stakeholders should be able to see and understand the impact of their involvement in consultations
We provide expert advice and recommendations on NSW’s approach to addressing climate change. Read more about the role of the commission.
We welcome your feedback on our consultation and engagement process at any time.
